Coming straight off the heels of November’s sobering election results, no one knew what to expect of this year’s Miami Art Basel— would the vibe be just as unsettled, anxious? The answer, we now know, is a resounding no. True to form, the international art world poured into the always exuberant city with as much enthusiasm and spirit as ever, filling the galleries, studios, streets and beaches with their usual joie de vivre.

When HG Contemporary’s inaugural show is a solo exhibit of acclaimed street artist RETNA’s work, you know it’s a gallery with a distinct point of view. That guiding direction comes mainly from the Chelsea gallery’s director, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim, who has been visiting museums since he was four years old, getting carted around the Louvre with his art-obsessed mother and internalizing her penchant for the arts.

But one peek past the perfection and you’ll find a city teeming with some of the friendliest, most creative and accessible people in the world! Stockholm as a place is just as beautiful; it’s a place as easy to explore as it is to love.

Safi Rabah is one of the incredibly talented designers behind the Juliette N. White label and got his start in the Kuwait fashion industry in 2008, when he relocated there from Tunisia after graduating with a degree in fashion marketing management. He’d just gotten the chance to work with an established Tunisian designer who was working in Kuwait at the time. After working as a creative assistant for two years, Rabah set off on his own, ultimately landing a designing gig at Juliette N. White. 

There’s New York, Milan, Paris, London - but Kuwait? As of last month, with the inauguration of Kuwait Fashion Week, the answer is a resounding yes. We spent three days in the glamorous city, attending events, sitting at fashion shows, meeting designers and completely immersing herself in the burgeoning Kuwaiti fashion culture.

While it may be tough to tear yourself away from cocktails poolside, be sure to catch an Uber to the other side of the bridge for a little cultural stimulation in the Wynwood Arts District one afternoon.  Teeming with art galleries, museums, coffee shops, bars and clothing stores too cool for school, the Arts District is the perfect escape to exercise your brain — rather than your bikini.

A recent documentary has finally addressed questions about sustainability in the fashion industry. The Next Black, released May 2014, and produced by German electronics company AEG, explores the future of clothing production. Will we create longer lasting, sustainable clothing or continue to mass produce? How will technology play a role in new fabrics and methods of production?
